PT TEL's Commitment to the Environment ( ISO 9001 ,ISO 14001 & FSC-CoC certified ) AT PT TeL, preserving and protecting the environment is a top priority. The health of our company depends on the health of the natural environment. We are always sensitive to our bio-diversity of the wildlife, soil, water and land around us. With the use of oxygen, our bleaching process has completely eliminated the use of elemental chlorine. The mill has been designated Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF). Our mill features an efficient system for reducing air emissions. Electrostatic precipitators have been installed to remove particles from the recovery boiler, power boiler and lime kiln flue gas. The bleach plant and chemicals preparation plant vents are processed by scrubbers. In strict adherence to the standards and guidelines stipulated by the Indonesian government, our effluent is processed in primary and secondary treatment systems. We ensure only fully-treated effluent is released back to the Lematang river. Sophisticated water recycling and re-use programmes are in place. When compared to the performance of older pulp mills around the world, considerably lower volumes of water per ton of pulp are used. PT TeL takes every step possible to ensure that we will always be surrounded by healthy and productive forests. Our future success depends on it. The management system of PT Tel has been assessed and certified as meeting the requirement of FSC Chain of Custody.

Work Flow at PT TeL, we spare no efforts in employing the most up-to-date technologies and the most highlyqualified workforce to run our operations. Once the raw wood logs are transported from the plantation to the mill, they are brought to the mill site where they are debarked and chipped, then conveyed into the Low-Solids single-vessel continuous digester. The chips are then cooked to separate lignin from the cellulose fibers. Through a process using oxygen, further delignification takes place to separate the extra-fine quality fibers.

The pulp is then bleached and cleaned to achieve high brightness levels of 89+ ISO. This is done gently, without chlorine, to minimize the impact on the environment. A washing and screening process cleans the bleached pulp further to remove any foreign materials. During the final stage of the pulping process, a sheet is formed, excess pulp water is removed and the pulp sheet is dried. To prepare the pulp for shipment, the 7.8 meters wide sheet is then cut into separate sheets. These sheets are pressed together in bales, wrapped and prepared for delivery.

Needless to say, all of these processes are supervised with the strictest quality-control measures and environmental-friendly systems. A DCS (Distributed Computer Control System) allows monitoring and evaluation at every stage of the production process.
